Soft Closure Announcement

January 19, 2021

Dear Warriors!

In consultation with our Weber School District leaders, Weber High School has at least 23 positive COVID cases, 12 new ones today and we are starting a 10 day soft closure tomorrow, Wednesday, January 20th. Weber will open back up on Monday, February 1st. There is no teacher prep day and students are required to login to the classes tomorrow. Teachers will be sending out an email to the students so encourage your student to check their student email accounts. This soft closure is in response to an increase in the number of positive COVID cases at Weber. To review the specifics regarding how we got to our closure, click here Department of Health Manual and go to page 95.

Our building will immediately undergo a deep disinfection and sanitation process as established in our Safe Weber Framework.

Here a few important pieces of information that will hopefully answer questions and help you navigate student learning during the soft closure:

  • Weber High is not in a full school quarantine, rather this soft closure is a preventative measure to help slow down our positive cases. We are still contact tracing new positive cases this afternoon and students may be quarantined, as determined by the Weber-Morgan Health Department, past the February 1st return date. You will be notified by a district nurse or school personnel if this is the case.
  • During our soft closure, all students are expected to attend their classes virtually and participate during the designated class period times. Teachers will be notifying students of the Google Meet invite during their class period time frame. Here is the class schedule we will be following and we expect all students to be engaged in their classes during this time each day:

1st / 5th Period: 8:30 am to 9:15 am
2nd / 6th Period: 9:30 am to 10:15 am
3rd / 7th Period: 10:30 am to 11:15 am
4th / 8th Period: 11:30 am to 12:15 pm

  • Teachers will be available for extra help daily from 1 pm to 3 pm via email or by scheduling an appointment for a virtual conference.
  • This soft closure is not a "vacation" for our students and we need them to continue their educational progression by joining their class each day. They will also be accessing Canvas for homework and further instruction.
  • If you or your student has questions regarding class work, Google Meet, class expectations or instruction, please email the teacher(s).
  • If your student tests positive while we are on our soft closure, you will need to report this to the school so we can properly complete a contact tracing. This will also help us help us keep accurate numbers, get us back into school on the 1st and not extend our soft closure (I would take the last part of this sentence out. If we still will have 23 active cases on the 1st, the soft closure could be extended)
  • Information on our Safe Weber protocol can be accessed on this link: Safe Weber
  • In accordance with the health department and UHSAA guidelines, we will continue to hold athletic events and play productions practices.

We will continue to update you as more information becomes available as we continue to work with the Weber-Morgan Health department and our district officials.

Warriors, this is a tough soft closure for us as it is the beginning of a new term. It is imperative that you attend your classes virtually, email your teachers with questions and keep up on your school assignments. It is also crucial that you continue to follow the guidelines and protocols that are in place by our Governor and health department. Any large group gatherings are discouraged as they may extend our soft closure. Please continue to wear your masks, wash your hands frequently and stay home when you have any symptoms. Our goal is to complete this soft closure then get everyone back to school healthy. Stay positive, be proactive and vigilant with your school work and reach out to our administrators, counselors, teachers and staff as we are here to support you. #WERISE #prideinweber #Believe #WeGotThis #LETSGOOOOOOOOOOO
